There's an open secret to Final Fantasy 6 — if you blitz through the only mandatory events in the World of Ruin, confronting Kefka with the absolute minimum number of party members, you can basically pretend that everyone else kicked the bucket on the Floating Continent. It's pretty messed up, and the ending is a farcical exercise in the worst sort of minimalism as a result. But it's doable.

We're going to assume that most players would rather enjoy the fullness of FF6's famously bleak second half, however, rather than turning it into something more akin to a "final ten percent." FF6 is often praised first and foremost for its eclectic cast of characters, after all. Continuing their individual story arcs — and recruiting a few new faces along the way — is what this guide's all about.
Only three characters must be on the team before players are permitted to ascend Kefka's Tower. Unless you're drastically overleveled, you will likely find it extremely difficult to progress through the game's final dungeon in this manner, but it's technically doable.
