During an interview, Final Fantasy 14 director and producer Naoki Yoshida theorized about what a Battle Royale PvP mode would look like in the critically-acclaimed MMORPG. Though Final Fantasy 14 has no plans for implementing such a mode right now, Yoshida said he would love to make it a reality one day.
In the interview with GameSpot, Yoshida discussed various aspects of Final Fantasy 14’s Patch 6.2. Since Final Fantasy 14 just added the Island Sanctuary–an Animal Crossing-like farming simulator–many wondered what other game modes Yoshida would want to add to FF14.

Yoshida theorized a Battle Royale mode specifically for Blue Mages would be the perfect fit for PvP in Final Fantasy 14. His idea set a bunch of Blue Mages on a vast field where they could learn skills from monsters, chests, or other players. Players would battle one another with the spells they learned, and the last person standing would be victorious. His idea is, of course, just an idea for now–he emphasized that currently-planned content would always take precedence.
Because of their versatility and intentional imbalance, Blue Mages in Final Fantasy 14 are a limited job, meaning they cannot participate in many parts of the game. Though they can clear dungeons, raids, and open-world events, they cannot do so using the Duty Finder and must find premade parties to participate. The Blue Mage level cap is also usually 10 to 20 levels behind the current maximum, ensuring they cannot be used for current content. That said, Yoshida is always looking for ways to keep Blue Mages fun, relevant, and engaging for players who enjoy the limited job.
