After developing an unhealthy obsession with Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail) in season 1, Joe moved on with Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) — who, as revealed by You season 2 ending, is also impulsive and willing to kill for «love.»
You season 3 sees Joe and Love living together and raising a child in the Californian suburb of Madre Linda; however, just because Joe is tied down does not stop him from looking for his next obsession. The season reveals more events from his childhood that explain his impulse to find a target he can protect. First, Joe meets Natalie Engler (Michaela McManus), their next-door neighbor, whose older, distant husband and shared love for reading draw him in. But right at the start of the season, Natalie is taken out of the picture by Love. Later on, after discovering similarities in their history, Joe realizes that his perfect match is Marienne Bellamy (Tati Gabrielle)
