There are a lot of DC movies coming to Netflix this month, and a significant portion of them feature Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn — but only one of them features Harley teaming up with a group of gals and reclaiming her legacy from the Joker.Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) has a mouthy title, but you have to use the whole thing to really hammer home the glitzy delight of the movie.
It is somehow still so rare to see multiple women — let alone morally grey women in the modern day — team up in a superhero movie. If you were annoyed by that girl power scene in Avengers: Endgame, where the Token Female Characters from every big Marvel group stood together for five seconds to save Peter Parker, Birds of Prey is for you. It smashes tired superhero gender conventions with a sparkly sledgehammer and an excited giggle.
