The Epic Games Store has been fighting an uphill battle ever since it launched in 2018. Despite the vast resources at Epic Games' disposal, Valve's Steam platform has firmly established itself as the premiere destination for PC games. In an effort to pull users away from Steam and to its Epic Games Store launcher, Epic Games has leveraged its resources to regularly give away games completely free of charge.
The Epic Games Store free games come in different ways. During big sales, the Epic Games Store runs mystery game promotions where users aren't sure what the next free game will be until it's actually made free. This keeps users coming back to find out what the mystery game ends up being, with the hope that one of the discounted games will catch their eye while they're browsing the launcher. Most of the time, the Epic Games Store lets users know what the free games will be from one week to the next, and so is the case with the free games that are available now.
Epic Games Store Update Adds New Features
The current batch of Epic Games Store free games, available until July 7 at 10:00am CT, were announced a week in advance — at least when it comes to two of the three games, that is. Epic Games Store users have known for a week that they would be able to claim Geneforge 1: Mutagen and Iratus: Lord of the Dead for free, but they were only given a few days' notice when it comes to Hood: Outlaws & Legends being one of the free games this week.
