Typically, the Epic Games Store reveals its free game for the following week as it releases its latest title. That's not to say the Epic Games Store never pulls out a surprise or two. Last week, it confirmed that fans would be able to get the Boom Boxer Pack for Rumbleverse, but no new game. However, as the time for its release came, a surprise game was added this week.
Alongside this new Rumbleverse content, Epic Games Store users will be able to claimDoom 64 until August 25 at 10 am CT. Doom 64 is one of the most iconic games within its franchise, which is saying something, with the early franchise receiving a cult following thanks to various ports and mods. Putting early titles on nongaming things is essentially a pastime by modders, with one even getting Doom to recently run on a John Deere tractor. Nonetheless, it's a welcome surprise to EGS this week.

Of course, it doesn't end there. Replacing this Rumbleverse pack and Doom 64 on August 25 is Ring of Pain, which will be available until the following Thursday, September 1. Ring of Pain is a unique genre blender that uses roguelike elements, card gameplay, and dungeon crawling. Players will have to make key decisions and gear up to survive the various secrets of the Ring of Pain. The game boasts 16 core path dungeons, a daily dungeon mode, 25+ special dungeons, 300+ items to craft a build with, 50+ creatures of friendly and fierce variety, and cryptic lore combined with a raw graphic art style that takes inspiration from Aphantasia.
It's an interesting indie title, which is one of Epic Games Store's specialties more or less, and unique enough that it's unlikely to be overshadowed by Doom 64. The latter's surprise addition comes
