It might not be nominated for best original song, but Encanto's«We Don't Talk About Bruno» will still have a presence at the Oscars as the song will be performed live for the first time. Disney's hit animated feature has been enjoying a wave of success since it debuted in theaters last November, and it doesn't look like the phenomenon will be ending any time soon. Disney CEO Bob Chapek called Encanto the start of a new franchise, and the upcoming release of a sing-along version on Disney+ confirms the company is eager to churn out new content in any way possible.
Encanto has a soundtrack full of infectious songs by Hamilton mastermind Lin-Manuel Miranda, and every single track has found some success one way or another. Still, if there is one that has risen above the pack, it's the ensemble number «We Don't Talk About Bruno». In a surprise move that took everyone, Miranda included, by surprise, Encanto's «Bruno» has become the most popular Disney song in 29 years. It hit #1 on the Billboard chart, making it the first Disney song to do so since «A Whole New World» from Aladdin. That was in January, and the passion for «Bruno» hasn't really slowed since.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is evidently taking note of this when planning this year's Oscars ceremony. The Academy has announced that the March 27 presentation will contain the first live performance of Encanto's «We Don't Talk About Bruno». It isn't yet clear who will be a part of the performance, though Miranda has sang at the Oscars before. Additionally, the ceremony will have special tributes to James Bond and The Godfather.
