Elden Ring, the newest Soulslike game from game developer FromSoftware, appears to share some design and atmospheric elements with manga and anime, making it more palatable for those that don't typically appreciate anime. In particular, Elden Ring shares several peculiarities with Berserk, a long-running manga and anime series that established many anime tropes in its series. Elden Ring gives some of those anime tropes a fresh coat of paint, by recontextualizing those tropes in a beautifully designed medieval video game setting.
On the surface, Elden Ring may not necessarily be the first game to compare to anime. Comparisons have even been made between the games, like comparing Stranger of Paradise: FF Origin to Elden Ring. Both games share their roots in anime influences and have similar combat, but Elden Ring does a better job of concealing those roots under a veneer of Soulslike medieval combat and exploration.
