One player put that into practice by invading a world and then very deftly turning the tables on his Host of Fingers and the Host's companion.

Elden Ring's PvP can be experienced in a few different ways, including the direct invasion of another player's game session. Some of these, like a duel between Obi-Wan and Dr. Strange, are controlled and civilized, but using a bloody finger, a player can invade an unprepared session directly. In this case, an invader who goes by Jolly Old Lautrec discovered that their opponent and their ally were at the bottom of a very long elevator. Deciding that there was an obvious ambush at the bottom, Lautrec took the long ride to make some preparations with an explosive payoff for their foes.
After drinking some Wondrous Physick to boost damage and putting on a buff from a fire incantation, Lautrec hefted a One-Eyed Shield and waited. Their patience was soon rewarded, as both players were lined up at the bottom of the elevator. A single blast from the Shield, which doubles as a cannon, blew them both up, though not before one released an incantation back at Lautrec. Without preparation, Lautrec would have died to Scarlet Rot. Instead, this turned out to be another situation in Elden Ring where a planned ambush of an invader went horribly wrong.
