Actor Christopher Eccleston reveals he would be open to returning to Doctor Who for a special as long as no other Doctor was featured in the episode. Doctor Who has been a staple series for sci-fi fans since it first aired in the 1960s. This long-running series has seen many actors take over the title of the Doctor, with the most recent being Jodie Whittaker playing the 13th Doctor.
After the original series ended in 1989, there was a large gap before the Doctor was seen again in a revamped version of the series in 2005. The first season saw a continuation of the Doctor’s story with Eccleston portraying the Ninth Doctor. Unlike actors who came after him, Eccleston only took on the role for one season. Despite his short-lived run, Eccleston marked a lot of fans’ first introduction to this classic series, so many were sad to see him go.

During a panel at the Supanova convention (via @whittckers), Eccleston revealed the criteria required for him to ever return to Doctor Who. When asked if there were any other Doctor actors he would like to collaborate with Eccleston didn’t seem keen on the idea, relaying that multi-Doctor stories are just a cash-grab. Not only does the actor not want to be involved in something that he feels cheapens the storytelling, but he also doesn’t feel that it works for his character. Read Eccleston’s statement below:
