EA says FIFA 23 is on track to be the biggest title in franchise history
Electronic Arts has said that FIFA 23 is “pacing to be the biggest title in franchise history”.
EA provided an update on the game’s performance as part of its third quarter earnings results on Tuesday.
“Year to date net bookings from the FIFA franchise have grown 4%”, CEO Andrew Wilson said during a conference call.
He added: “In North America alone, unit sales are up 50% year over year.”
EA also said that FIFA 23 “delivered record engagement in Q3”, referring to the three-month period ended on December 31, 2022.
FIFA 23 released in September 2022 and enjoyed a record-breaking launch for the franchise in terms of first week player numbers.
It attracted over 10.3 million players in its first seven days of availability, compared to 9.1 million players who joined FIFA 22 in the 10 days following its release.
FIFA 23 is the last EA game to sport the FIFA name before the licence expires and EA and FIFA go their separate ways. Last May, EA said it would begin “a new era in July 2023” with the introduction of the EA Sports FC series.
On the same day as EA’s announcement, FIFA president Gianni Infantino stated that FIFA would launch a rival game.
