More than any other faction, House Atreides needs to maintain a positive reputation in the eyes of the people of Arrakis. As such, Atreides players cannot pillage occupied Villages. While this hampers their income somewhat, they are able to peacefully annex neutral Villages by spending Influence alongside the usual annexation cost of Water and Authority.
Treaties with your competitors can go a long way to securing your victory, and the Atreides have a much easier time convincing rival factions to enter into long-term agreements. Other players do not lose Authority from signing treaties with the Atreides, making your diplomatic offers that much more enticing. After all, what do your competitors have to lose?
You still have to pay the Authority upkeep for all your active treaties - don't enact too many at once, or you won't have enough Authority to expand!
