Primal Beast is Dota 2's newest hero in the long-awaited 7.31 patch, and players are unsure of what role it should be played. Upon initial inspection, this hero seems to have characteristics that can fit any role players can think of. As with all things Dota 2, however, there's typically an optimal way to play or build each hero most of the time, and Primal Beast is no exception.
Primal Beast's 1st ability, Onslaught, is a long-ranged charge that knocks back any ally or enemy in the way. Primal Beast's 2nd ability, Trample, allows it to stomp any enemies in the area as it moves, dealing massive amounts of damage if it can stay on target. Primal Beast's 3rd ability, Uproar, charges up when getting attacked by heroes and can be activated for a massive damage boost and a slow in an area around the Beast. Finally, Primal Beast's ultimate, Pulverize, allows it to grab an enemy and smash it into the ground, dealing hefty damage, stunning the target, and mini-stunning anyone in the area after each smash.

These abilities are what's causing the confusion. Primal Beast's long-ranged Onslaught would seemingly make it a suitable initiator from the mid-lane or offlane, and it doesn't require items to deal a ton of damage as a support. But on the other hand, items are needed for that same damage to scale into the late game as a core, and items are needed to make it more consistent through tankiness and resistance to spells. Without knowing more information, any player could reasonably argue for this hero being used in any role, but some are clearly better than others in practice.
