If you were hoping to have a nice evening talking with friends or listening to some tunes, the Internet has just ruined your day. There are reports that Discord and Spotify - as well as several other large scale websites like Wikipedia - are currently down following a variety of complicated technical issues.
Discord's official Twitter account - yes, Twitter is still alive because it truly is the cockroach of social media - acknowledge the outage earlier today, explaining that there are issues causing message failures and that the site has been taken down. It's unclear whether Discord will be down for long, but Discord's next tweet telling people to "go outside" probably indicates that it won't be a quick fix.

A trip to Discord's official status page reveals a bit more about what the issue is, with API errors apparently being the biggest issue that engineers are currently trying to overcome. Discord first updated the page about the outages at 09:16 PST, gradually updating users on the issues up until now. The site's latest update came at 10:59 PST and explains that engineers are currently still investigating the root cause of the issue.
When it comes to Spotify, trying to figure out what's going on there is a bit trickier. The platform seems to be a bit more private than Discord, although we can probably assume that the issues affecting Spotify are the same or similar to the ones affecting Discord. Spotify is aware of the problem and have apparently got a much better handle on it than Discord, although users are still reporting difficulties logging into their accounts.
