Delayed The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has received a new launch window

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is now scheduled for release during the six months ending in September 2023.

Co-publisher Nacon confirmed the new launch window for the delayed game in a financial report this week.

It means the game, which is being developed and co-published by Daedalic Entertainment, will not be released before April and could arrive much later in the year.

Taking place in parallel to the events described in The Fellowship of the Ring, Gollum is a story-driven action RPG in which players embark on a quest to retrieve the One Ring.

Revealed in 2019 and originally scheduled for release in 2021, the game has been delayed on several occasions.

Last May, it was announced that the game would be released in September 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, with a Switch version to follow later in the year.

The first gameplay trailer arrived last June, but the following month Nacon and Daedalic said the game had been delayed by “a few months”, and it later said it wouldn’t be released until 2023.

“During the past several years, the team has been working hard to share our vision of a remarkable story, set in a breathtaking world, filled with magic and wonder,” the companies said last July.

“We are dedicated to meeting our community’s expectations and uncovering the untold story of Gollum in a way that honors the vision of J.R.R. Tolkien.

“That being said, in order to deliver the best possible experience, we have decided to push the release of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum by a few months. We’ll update with an exact timing in the near future.”
