Deep Water’s ending sees Melinda burn Tony’s licenses to help cover up his murder, providing one final twist for Vic and Melinda’s story. Disney/20th Century Studio's 2022 movie Deep Water depicts the tumultuous marriage of Vic (Ben Affleck) and Melinda Van Allen (Ana de Armas), who have entered a precarious agreement in which Melinda can take lovers as long as she doesn’t break up their family, which includes their young daughter, Trixie. While Vic initially seems indifferent about Melinda’s affairs, he eventually snaps, which sets into motion a chain of events that end in murder for Melinda’s lovers, but a stronger relationship for the central couple.
After Vic scares off her "friend" Joel, Melinda takes on two subsequent lovers in Hulu’s Deep Water: Charlie (Jacob Elordi) and Tony (American HorrorStory's Finn Wittrock), both of whom Vic kills in cold blood. After Charlie’s death, Melinda publicly accuses Vic of killing him, whereafter she and Don, a new neighbor who also suspects Ben Affleck's character, hire a private investigator to follow him. Vic is never found guilty of Charlie’s murder, with Melinda even realizing that their marriage has reignited a lost passion since the ordeal. However, after Tony goes missing, Melinda finds Tony’s wallet in a box of Vic’s snails, which confirms to her that he murdered both of her lovers.
