The latest Cyberpunk 2077 update adds support for AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 2.1.
The PC and current-gen versions of the game will now support the upscaling tech, which theoretically should mean improved performance.
FSR is AMD’s rival to Nvidia‘s much-hyped DLSS technology, which uses AI to upscale the resolution of PC games, effectively allowing players to achieve higher graphical settings and better frame rates from their systems. Unlike DLSS, FSR does not use machine learning in its upscaling algorithm.
In theory, the addition of FSR 2.1 support to Cyberpunk 2077 should mean the game can render at a lower resolution – improving frame rate – then use FSR to upscale to a higher resolution with results that should be barely distinguishable from native resolutions.
The update also includes around 50 new bug fixes, including an issue where cross-progression saves from Xbox One versions of the game weren’t transferring to PC or PlayStation versions.
Cyberpunk 2077’s 1.6 patch, which was released in September, was the last major update for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game.
