Keanu Reeves hasn’t abandoned Cyberpunk 2077 and will be recording new lines for the next gen expansion due next year.
John Wick himself was a big part of the marketing blitz for Cyberpunk 2077, back before it came out and everyone thought it was going to be a beloved blockbuster.
That’s not quite how things turned out though and you might have though the long-running controversy over bugs and glitches might have put Keanu Reeves off appearing in any subsequent DLC, but apparently not.
It may just be a contractual obligation, but Reeves will reprise his role of Johnny Silverhand in upcoming DLC expansion Phantom Liberty, which will only be released on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the parent game were the main problem with the original launch, so it’s not much of a surprise to find developer CD Projekt Red ditching them at the earliest opportunity.
Phantom Liberty was unveiled as part of the Edgerunners Special livestream and will continue the story of customisable player character V, together with a new cast of characters. It doesn’t have a release date but is planned for sometime in 2023.
CD Projekt Red have named anime such as Akira and Ghost in the Shell as the primary inspirations, but apart from it seeming to involve you becoming a government operative there’s not much real information on what it’s all about, other than it’s described as a ‘spy thriller’.
The focus of the livestream was, understandably, today’s Edgerunners update, which is intended as a tie-in with the Netflix show of the same name.
