David Cronenberg's first film in several years, Crimes of the Future, now has an official release date. Cronenberg is known for his gruesome body horror, disturbing sound design, and commentary on people's relationships with bodies and technology. The last film he both wrote and directed was Cosmopolis in 2012.
According to Bloody Disgusting, the NEON-distributed film will release in theaters in New York and LA on June 3 and have a wider release on June 10. The film stars Viggo Mortensen as Saul Tenser, a celebrity performance artist who, with the help of his partner, Caprice (Léa Seydoux), pushes the boundaries of art and science by publicly displaying transformations to his own organs. Kristen Stewart stars as Timlin, an investigator from the National Organ Registry. An official statement from Cronenberg regarding the film can be read below:
"'Crimes of the Future' is a meditation on human evolution. Specifically – the ways in which we have had to take control of the process because we have created such powerful environments that did not exist previously."
