While Catwoman is no stranger to blurring the lines between hero and villain, recent glimpses into her future suggest a twisted fate is her true destiny. Famously known for her daring heists and complicated romance with Batman, Selina Kyle, Catwoman, has ties to Gotham’s Rogues Gallery and the Bat-Family. Despite her connections to both groups, Selina operates on a moral code that sets her apart from her peers and seems set to secure a dark future.
Batman/Catwoman shows the past, present, and future of Batman and Catwoman’s relationship. The story depicts Selina’s early ties to villains such as the Joker, glimpses into her time operating as a hero with Batman, and a future in which Selina achieves justice through lethal means after Bruce’s death. Similarly, Catwoman: Lonely City portrays an older Selina Kyle returning to a dystopian Gotham years after the demise of Batman to stop Mayor Harvey Dent, the former villain Two-Face.

In both Tom King and Clay Mann’s Batman/Catwoman and Cliff Chiang’s Catwoman: Lonely City, Selina is willing to cross the line when she deems it necessary. After Batman’s death in Batman/Catwoman, Selina tracks down and kills an elderly Joker, also appearing to slay the Penguin. Additionally, Lonely City #3 has Selina mercy kill Killer Croc after Two-Face’s Batcops gravely injure him. Although tragic, these events confirm that Selina cannot escape her destiny to kill off the villains she used to run with.
