Since The Callisto Protocol was shown off a few weeks back, several aspects of the game have stood out the most. One of those aspects was how much the game was reminiscent of Dead Space. In addition, plenty of people talked about just how violent the game was, and it turns out the developers leaned heavily into «real-life» violence and gore to design the game.
When the latest official trailer came out for the game, several people immediately pointed out just how violent The Callisto Protocol video was. While plenty of games out there have all kinds of violence and gore, it appears the developers for this particular title are looking to make everything just a little more realistic. It's possible that the developers could come under a bit of fire for the way they are going about their dedication to realism.
The Callisto Protocol Has PS5 Exclusive Features
During an interview with PCGamesN, Striking Distance Studios' chief creative officer Chris Stone spoke about some inspirations for The Callisto Protocol. Stone pointed to games like Silent Hill and Resident Evil as «obvious inspiration.» He also gave nods to movies such as The Thing and Event Horizon. While adding that the game takes inspiration from Korean and French cinema, Stone explained that the team looked at quite a bit of genuine horror and gore to fine-tune the game's environment.
Stone went on to say that while it was a «lot less fun to research,» he believed the real-life horror and gore the team designed The Callisto Protocol around was some of the most memorable and valuable content when it came to creating a realistic look and feel to the game.
There is a chance that Stone's admission that the team went so far in order to gain realism could draw some backlash.
