When Call of Duty: Warzone first launched in 2020, it did so with the Verdansk map. Verdansk quickly became one of the most popular battle royale maps there was, with a nice variety of areas that catered to different playstyles. As the months progressed, Activision and its studios made slight changes to Verdansk to try to keep things fresh, while adding a new small-scale map called Rebirth Island. However, the decision was eventually made to remove Verdansk from Call of Duty: Warzone entirely in favor of the new Pacific map Caldera.
At the time, many Call of Duty: Warzone fans were anxious for a new map. After all, they had been playing on Verdansk for nearly two years straight at that point, and so they were ready for some new experiences. Unfortunately, the Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera map fell way short of expectations, resulting in some backlash that the game has never really covered from. Those who were once asking for a new Warzone map started to ask for Verdansk to make a comeback, and it seems that they'll be getting their wish, but there's a catch.

According to Activision's Alex Summers, Call of Duty: Warzone will be bringing back Verdansk at some point in 2023, but only on «certain platforms.» The Call of Duty: Warzone mobile game is rumored to feature Verdansk, so it's entirely possible that is what Summers is referring to, so those hoping to see it make a comeback on PC and consoles should keep their expectations in check.
