Activision is pushing hard on the Call of Duty license this year, with not one but two new games on the way in 2022. The first is the sequel to the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot, presumably calledModern Warfare 2, and the other will be Call of Duty: Warzone 2.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2 will of course be the direct sequel to the series' popular and free-to-play battle royale multiplayer game. It’s a standalone product and so presumably will beWarzone 2, although as with the previous release, it's being built as a companion. It will feature a new game engine as well as a “sandbox mode” that will presumably allow some customization of matches.

One other thing gamers do know about the upcoming title is that Warzone 2 will be skipping PS4 and Xbox One completely. While this may be upsetting news for gamers who haven’t been able to acquire a next-gen system just yet, it’s good news for those who want to see a game that uses the latest tech. By cutting out the old consoles the studio can work at perfecting an experience that’s faster and larger than ever before, and give their Xbox Series X and PS5 consoles a good workout. Several rumors about the game have appeared, too, including some new leaks about its map.
Call of Duty leaker TheGhostofHope wrote on Twitter that based on what they've seen, they think that the map in Warzone 2 will take place in the Atacama Desert, which would mean it’s set in South America. With the map rumored to feature ares from the original Modern Warfare 2, and the 2009 gamehaving iconic maps set in deserts called Rust' and 'Afghan', this seems possible.
