Infinity Ward is addressing the footstep audio issue before the second weekend beta of Modern Warfare 2 begins across all platforms.

Infinity Ward is reducing footstep audio range for a number of player movement states such as jog, sprint, and tactical sprint. The adjustments to footstep audio will allow for a more fair experience as players move around the maps in Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer. Alongside the footstep audio change, friendly and enemy footsteps will be distinct in the upcoming beta. The change allows players to better coordinate with their team while still being able to recognize enemy footsteps.
The Call of Duty developer plans to share more information about the footstep audio changes soon according to the latest Modern Warfare 2 community update. Changes discussed in the update will be active during the second weekend beta starting Saturday, September 24. The first Modern Warfare 2 cross-play beta begins on September 22, but it will not feature the footstep audio changes.
