What happens if you mix Bloodborne, the Lovecraftian horror game made by Dark Souls developer From Software, with Mario Kart? We might find out sooner than later.
From Software and Sony Computer Entertainment released Bloodborne in March 2015. An expansion called The Old Hunters followed in November 2015. Rumors about the companies releasing a sequel—or remastering the original release—have abounded in the years since.
But an independent development team created a "demake" of the game called Bloodborne PSX in February. As its name suggests, Bloodborne PSX offers a glimpse at what Bloodborne might have been like if it were released for the original PlayStation, rather than the PlayStation 4.
Now the same team is teasing a followup to the demake called Bloodborne Kart:
The dev, "b0tster," has also shared videos of early Bloodborne Kart builds in action:
PCGamesN notes that b0tster initially used Bloodborne Kart as an April Fool's joke for 2021 by claiming work on Bloodborne PSX had been canceled in favor of this kart racer. Now that the demake is out, however, it seems an eldritch take on a Mario Kart-like game will become reality.
It's worth noting that neither From Software nor Sony Computer Entertainment have given Bloodborne PSX or Bloodborne Kart their stamp of approval. The demake remains available over a month after release, however, so it seems it hasn't caught the companies' ire yet.
The announcement video says Bloodborne Kart will be released "when it's ready."
