AGDQ has had another successful year raising money for cancer research, with one blindfolded player beating Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
As a FromSoftware game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is an intensely difficult game, one that harshly punishes any and all mistakes. Yet somehow beating it while blindfolded has become a popular past time.
Over the weekend, speedrunner Mitchriz undertook the challenge of completing the action adventure ninja game while wearing an eye mask. Not only did he manage to reach the end, but he did it in just over two hours, which seems, frankly, impossible.
This meant he had to rely purely on Sekiro’s audio and sound cues, as well as his own memory of the game’s overworld and the location of enemies, checkpoints, and helpful non-playable characters.
Believe it or not, Mitchriz doesn’t hold the world record for this specific challenge. Only last month, a Chinese speedrunner did the exact same thing in just under an hour and 43 minutes.
Mitchriz’s run was part of Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ), the yearly event where speedrunners get together to attempt self-imposed challenges and raise money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
The event has now ended, having raised a collective $3,416,729 (just over £2.5 million), which is the most amount of money it has ever raised in its entire history.
More of AGDQ 2022’s speedruns can be watched through the official YouTube channel. The majority only required the runners to clear their games as fast as possible, although several had additional stipulations, such as needing to beat it at a certain difficulty or not being allowed to use glitches to skip portions of the game.
The Games Done Quick organisation will be back next month with its all-women speedrunning event,
