BioShock Games Update Is Upsetting Steam Deck Users

A recent update for all three BioShock games has been rolling out, but those who have the games on Valve's Steam Deck device are a bit upset about the quality-of-life patch. Given that the first entry in the series is considered one of the best FPS games ever made, it's understandable that some would be troubled by this latest update, and it's apparently related to the Linux operating system.

For those who don't know, the Steam Deck uses Proton which is a version of Linux. Up until this latest patch, users were able to enjoy the games on the Deck with seemingly no problem, but a new 2K launcher added in the patch is what appears to be causing the problems. This also seems to affect those running Linux on a home PC as well.

A recent report from PC Gamer cites a Reddit post complaining that the BioShock releases are now «broken» on the handheld PC. While there are only two major updates according to the patch notes, namely that 2K account link has been implemented and the games are now being run through the publisher's launcher, a number of Steam Deck users have found they are unable to play any of the games, particularly due to the operating system that the device uses. Some have taken to Steam to express their concern that they can't get any BioShock release to run since the update rolled out. Hopefully, 2K Games will see the issues that many are registering and roll out a fix for it.
