Aziz Ansari has signed on to make his feature-length directorial debut with a comedy-drama set to star both Ansari and screen legend Bill Murray. Ansari's journey to mainstream prominence began with workplace comedy Parks & Recreation, before the star showed off his directorial skills with the Emmy-winning series Master of None. Both Ansari and Murray have been busy lately, with Ansari recently releasing a new comedy special on Netflix and Murray dusting off his iconic Ghostbusters costume for a recent appearance in Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

Confirmed by Deadline, the project will look to adapt Atul Gawande's non-fiction book, Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End, with Ansari signed on to write the script for the movie, as well as direct and star in the film. The currently untitled comedy-drama, which will also star Murray, is being developed on behalf of Searchlight Pictures. Expressing their excitement for the project, Searchlight's presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield described Ansari as "an incredible talent" who «brings a singular combination of insightful humor and pathos.» Continuing, the pair said they were «thrilled to be partnering with him on his feature directorial debut, which is long overdue, and, of course, working with the genius Bill Murray once again».
With such an incredibly strong pedigree behind the project, it's an excellent opportunity for Ansari to flex his directorial skills on a much bigger stage than the small screen he's used to.
