Graphics processing was increasing exponentially, allowing the player experience to go from watching a few pixels march across a CRT screen to watching people blow apart into bloody pieces. Games like Doom, Quake, and Mortal Kombat led the charge in gaming's gruesome early days, and this led politicians to allege that video games were desensitizing children and turning them into violent monsters.
