Best Buy is offering to collect old electronics from your home and ensure they are responsibly and safely recycled or reused.
Anyone in the US can request a pickup by the big-box store. The Best Buy Standalone Haul-Away service will then remove and reprocess up to two large products, along with an unlimited number of smaller devices like laptops, cameras, gaming consoles, etc.
The $199.99 service helps keep your devices out of landfills and, when possible, gives them a second life. And if you're a Best Buy Totaltech member, the price drops 20% to just $159.99. As to figuring out which products can and can't be collected, and if they fall into the large or small category, Best Buy produced a handy list for you to peruse.
"We feel we have an important role to play in helping our planet, including being there for the entire lifecycle of a product—from the time a customer starts shopping until that product is responsibly recycled," Tim Dunn, Best Buy's head of environmental sustainability, said in a statement.
All devices, large and small, must be disconnected and cleared of all food, personal belongings, and batteries before being collected; the team must be able to remove each piece without disassembly. Once loaded up, products cannot be returned.
Since 2009, Best Buy has helped customers recycle more than 2 billion pounds of electronics and appliances. The company already accepts a variety of used items—like headphones, hard drives, chargers, robot vacuums, CD players, e-readers, game consoles, and digital cameras—for free.
