Back in 2018, Belgium become one of the first countries to rule that loot boxes are a form of gambling. Due to this, they were automatically banned from video games.
However, it now appears that this ruling was ineffective, with loot boxes still appearing in 82 percent of top mobile games.
This news comes from loot box researcher Leon Y. Xiao, who has found that the most successful mobile game developers are ignoring the ban.
Xiao's report states that the ban simply gave consumers a "false sense of security", and needs addressing if the law is to be enforced as intended.
