The second trailer for the Fresh Prince reboot series Bel-Air makes the original sitcom theme song gritter and more realistic. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, which is the show that catapulted Will Smith into stardom, followed his character — also named Will Smith — as he navigated being a fish-out-of-water in a wealthy Southern California neighborhood. After filmmaker Morgan Cooper made a fan film reimagining the series as a gritty drama, Will Smith teamed with him to bring his vision to life on NBC's streaming service Peacock. The first season of Bel-Air is set to premiere on Super Bowl Sunday this year.
One of the most iconic elements of the original sitcom is its opening theme song. Will Smith raps about the circumstances that led him to move in with his aunt and uncle in Bel-Air. His upbringing in West Philadelphia is cut short when a fight with some rough guys on a basketball court leads his mom to fear for his safety and send him off to California.

Peacock just released the second trailer, which tells the same story as Smith's original rap, with a much darker twist. The character Will, now played by Jabari Banks in Bel-Air, still gets in a fight on a basketball court, but it's a much more dangerous and realistic fight that threatens to break out into gun violence. Rather than a mom potentially overreacting to Will Smith's «bad boy» attitude, the new Will's mother is genuinely afraid for his life when she sends him away. Check out the trailer below:
