The Bachelor season 26 lead Clayton Echard revealed how he was cast on Michelle Young's season of The Bachelorette. Clayton, a 28-year-old medical sales representative from Missouri, had very little screen time on Michelle's season, but he made enough of an impression on the producers that he was asked to be the next Bachelor. Clayton made a splash with his entrance, as he emerged from the limousine with a yardstick and had Michelle hit him on his backside with it. He meant for this to be a playful joke about teachers, and elementary school teacher Michelle laughed about it. Throughout the season, Clayton participated in several group dates, one of the most memorable being the «Ultimate Viking» challenge, during which the men dressed in Viking costumes and ate traditional Viking delicacies such as cow brains, tongue, and cheek. Clayton won this challenge and received the group date rose.
In his last appearance on the show, Clayton showed a much softer side. After a group date during which Michelle's students built pillow forts and had heart-to-heart conversations with Clayton, they chose him to have a one-on-one dinner with Michelle. Michelle decided not to give Clayton the rose on this date. After he left, he cried and shared privately that the only thing that he wants in life is a wife and children. This vulnerability led many viewers to believe that Clayton would be announced as the next Bachelor, and they were not wrong. However, this was a controversial decision because many fans felt that Clayton was not the right choice for the lead role.
