From now until the end of the month, Ubisoft is hosting a free Assassin's Creed Valhalla weekend across all available platforms. The free-to-play weekend comes days ahead of AC Valhalla's Dawn of Ragnarok DLC, a $40 expansion starring Odin in a quest to rescue his son, Baldr. Ubisoft announced the DLC late last year, promising an all-new robust experience packed with fresh gameplay mechanics, previously unseen locales, and a host of intriguing characters for players to meet.
Set in 9th Century England during the Viking Age, Assassin's Creed Valhalla allows players to assume the role of Eivor, a Viking warrior who leaves their home in Norway with a crew of fellow villagers looking to make a new life in what will one day become the United Kingdom. The title bears a lot in common with its immediate predecessor AC Odyssey, given that it doubles down on Assassin's Creed's still-divisive RPG elements. Notably, the franchise's latest entry continues to up the ante on the live-service aspects as well, with AC Valhalla counting as the first installment to recieve a second year of post-launch support.

According to a post via the official Assassin's Creed Twitter page, AC Valhalla's free weekend kicks off today, Thursday, February 24. Players on Google Stadia, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms can, thus, access the title free of charge from now until February 28. Console players who become invested in Eivor's saga during the weekend are in luck, too, since the PlayStation and Xbox digital storefronts have temporarily lowered the sale price to $24.
