Apex Legends launched three years ago, and is still one of the best performing games in EA's current portfolio, beating recently released shooters like Battlefield 2042 in a number of parameters. As part of the anniversary celebrations, Apex Legends has introduced a bunch of new cosmetics, and even a new 9v9 Control limited-time mode. One of the cosmetics up for sale is a skin for Bloodhound that changes its appearance with every kill. But as awesome as it sounds, a number of fans will be boycotting it.
The reason for boycotting such an awesome skin? It costs $164. Some Apex players aren't very happy with EA's monetization strategy, as they feel like it has been skewing towards professional players and streamers who can afford these prices. "The skin is the reward for collecting all 24 skins in the Anniversary event," said hootboy2000000 on the Apex Legends subreddit.

"Respawn decided that giving us heirloom shards wouldn't make them enough money, and replaced them with a very well-made skin for the pro-streamers and creators who can afford it," he continued. "Because the very well received event last year was too generous." They pointed out that while the skin has more value than a Legendary, it's definitely not worth as much as an entire heirloom. They went on to ask players to #BoycottApexAnniversary if they felt that the game's monetization strategy has gone too far.
They weren't alone, as a lot of people seemed to agree in the comments section. What's more, it looks like the moderators of the subreddit have locked the thread, so that no more comments can be made to it. There's been no word from EA or Respawn about this as yet.
