Speedrunners rarely need a financial incentive to completely turn a game inside out. But now, their efforts will be rewarded with a $3,000 prize pool, bagging a full $1,000 if they take the top spot in a new indie title, Grapple Dog.
Anyone with a top 10 record by February 28 will win a split of the prize pool. The contest is being held by Grapple Dog's publisher Super Rare Originals, and developer Medallion Games, celebrating its launch this Thursday.

The contest has already got some big speedrunning names attached to it, with Super Rare revealing that EZScape, TheMexicanRunner, JJsrl, Hendrixx, iPK, Oshikorosu, and LilKirbs are all participating. Don't let the inclusion of pros put you off submitting your own entities, however - they'll be duking it out in a separate pool. This tournament will be hosted over on the Global Speedrun Authority Twitch channel, and will take place February 12 and 13 at 6pm GMT.

If you missed the release, Grapple Dog is an adorable, yet apparently quite difficult, platformer available on PC and Nintendo Switch. The reviews on Steam are looking positive so far, and platformers have long been a mainstay in the speedrunning community. We rarely see developers and publishers purposely push their titles as speed games, but it's sure as hell a great way to keep players coming in for years to come if it takes off.
