Ant-Man, Cocaine Bear, And Jesus Dominate Latest Box Office Numbers
The latest box office numbers are in, and Ant-Man, cocaine, and Jesus led the way in the US. According toDeadline, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ruled the weekend with another $32.2 million, bringing its total box office figures for the US to $167.3 million after its first two weekends.
Quantumania won the weekend but it came up short compared to every single MCU movie before it. That's because the film's 69% drop from its debut box office result was the biggest percentage decline for an MCU movie dating back to the first one, 2008's Iron Man.
Coming in second this weekend was Cocaine Bear, which debuted with $23.09 million. And in third place was Jesus Revolution with $15.5 million. So in one weekend, movies about ants, cocaine, and Jesus collectively earned more than $70 million.
For Cocaine Bear, Universal boss Jim Orr said, «This is a tremendous debut» for the film based on a true story of a bear that ate a lot of cocaine. Jesus Revolution, from Lionsgate, performed better than expected, as it was originally only forecast to earn $7 million for the weekend. The Christian drama stars Kelsey Grammar, Joel Courtney, Jonathan Roumie, and Kimberly Williams-Paisley.
There are a number of big movies set for release soon, including Creed III (March 3), Scream VI (March 10), Shazam: Fury of the Gods (March 17), and John Wick: Chapter 4 (March 24).
