A creative Animal Crossing: New Horizons player has turned their game into The Shining thanks to some clever design choices. Since its debut in March of 2020, the latest installment in Nintendo's social simulator series has expanded the creative options available to players, allowing for more detailed builds that are often inspired by other intellectual properties.
An integral gameplay element throughout the Animal Crossing series is personal customization, with New Horizons having one of the more expansive catalogs of adaptable items. Custom design slots in particular allow for players to expand on their creative endeavors, giving individuals up to 100 design slots with the addition of the Animal Crossing Custom Design Pro Editor+. For some players, however, even this has proven not to be enough in their quests to create impressive builds or accurate recreations.

Reddit user DamnNearKilledIt recently showcased their design that drew inspiration from the 1980 Stanley Kubrick horror film, The Shining. The build relies heavily on custom design slots and they are used to the fullest extent with notable features such as a detailed drawing of the Overlook Hotel as well as a mess of papers that all say "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." DamnNearKilledIt also used some base Animal Crossing elements like a typewriter and an axe to add to the aesthetic. The reddit user did express some regret, however, saying that they wished they had added a custom REDRUM sticker to their horror scene. Unfortunately this was not possible due to the creator running out of Animal Crossing custom design slots.
