Amazon is increasing the amount of clean energy it produces with the announcement of 71 new renewable energy projects(Opens in a new window) around the world.
Once operational, they will generate 2.7 gigawatts of additional clean energy. It takes Amazon's total number of renewable energy projects to 379, and the total energy generated when they are all up and running to 50,000 gigawatt hours.
Three of the new projects count as Amazon's first foray into large-scale renewable energy in India, where the company intends to construct a trio of solar farms in Rajasthan generating 420 megawatts. There are also rooftop solar projects in France and Austria, and a first solar farm in Poland. In the US, an additional 1 gigawatt of clean energy will be generated with the help of two renewable projects in Louisiana. Brazil is also going to be home to a new solar farm for Amazon, generating 122 megawatts.
“We are bringing new wind and solar projects online to power our offices, fulfillment centers, data centers, and stores, which collectively serve millions of customers globally, and we are on a path to reach 100% renewable energy across our entire business by 2025,” said Adam Selipsky, CEO of Amazon Web Services.
In total, Amazon will be operating 154 wind and solar farms, and 225 rooftop solar projects around the world. The location of all these projects can be viewed on Amazon's renewable energy map(Opens in a new window).
