The issue of immigration is getting the elevated horror treatment with American Carnage. The film centers on JP, the son of an undocumented immigrant who is rounded up with similar young adults by ICE and offered the opportunity to earn back their citizenship by working at an elder care facility with a dark secret.

Ahead of the film's release, Screen Rant spoke exclusively with star Allen Maldonado to discuss American Carnage, melding horror with comedy, Black-ish coming to an end, and more.
Screen Rant: American Carnage is a blast. I had no idea what I was getting into when I started it up, and it's quite the ride. What about it really sparked your interest?
Allen Maldonado: Just the underlining topic that we're addressing with immigration. That was definitely a drawing point to the script, where not only are we having fun, shooting this movie in Spain, we got an incredible cast, but also, we're touching on a topic that is very serious and bringing light to it in a way that is unique and entertaining, where it's not just somebody standing on a soapbox preaching. That undertone was definitely important to me.
A lot of people have talked about that balance of levity and horror in this story, a lot of which comes from your character. What was that like for you finding that right balance in those scenes of the dramatic and the comedy?
