Gamescom Opening Night Live gave gaming fans a bevy of new video game news and trailers to digest with one particular highlight being an extended look at the upcoming Pathogen DLC for Aliens: Fireteam Elite. Ahead of the DLC's launch, developer Cold Iron Studios shared some more information on what fans of the co-op shooter should expect, including a snippet of Aliens: Fireteam Elite's first-ever boss fight.
When Aliens: Fireteam Elite released last August, Cold Iron Studios looked to blend the core gameplay loops of similar horde-slaying titles such as Left 4 Dead and World War Z with the storied Aliens franchise. Players take on the role of a Colonial Marine with a variety of classes, perks, equipment and weaponry at their disposal as they are tasked with completing objectives and surviving against relentless waves of Xenomorphs. The upcoming Pathogen DLC is looking to expand on the game's foundation and round out the first year of content.

Cold Iron Studios gave more insight on what to expect through a new trailer. The Pathogen DLC will introduce an all new campaign that explores the effects a mysterious black goo has on local and alien life. The Xenomorphs have come into contact with it causing them to mutate, and it's up to the Colonial Marines to handle the situation which involves a confrontation with an enraged Alien Queen who makes an appearance towards the end of the trailer.
The trailer for the Pathogen DLC also confirms previously shared information such as the addition of a hardcore mode. However, the development team has shed more light on the previously announced information such as the hardcore mode featuring «permadeath» and up to fifty
