Maya Rudolph is back as the reigning queen of quirky comedy in Apple TV's Loot, which began streaming last week. If the premise of a dangerously optimistic woman entering a world about which she knows nothing sounds like the perfect blend of sarcasm and sincerity, that's because executive producers Matt Hubbard and Alan Yang previously worked on Parks and Recreation and The Good Place.
Not only does Loot serve as a reunion for the creative team and Rudolph, who portrays recently-minted billionaire divorcee Molly as she learns the ropes of charitable foundations, it also reunites them with Adam Scott. Scott plays Molly's ex-husband John Novak, whose relationship with her does not get any more pleasant after their divorce. Nevertheless, the shenanigans that ensue at Molly's new workplace are as hilarious and heartwarming as one would expect based on the talent involved.

Screen Rant spoke to Hubbard and Yang about how they crafted the character of Molly to play to Maya Rudolph's strengths, why Adam Scott makes the perfect rich jerk, and what causes are important to them.
Screen Rant: Maya is so fabulous. How did you collaborate with her to create a character like Molly?
Alan Yang: Yeah, absolutely. The first thing you do is you start early, right? You collaborate early.
We came up with this idea for the show, just the blanket premise that a woman gets divorced and is left with nothing but $87 billion. Then we were like, «Wow, that's a fun idea. It seems like a funny world that could be really rich emotionally.» We just text Maya, and we're like, «Hey, let's chat about this.» We get on the phone with her and just sort of pitch it out.
