Activision has announced that Infinity Ward is developing the next installment of the Call of Duty franchise, which is set to arrive later this year, as a sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019.
The company says the next Call of Duty will also feature a significant update to Warzone, the battle royale mode that was released alongside Modern Warfare 2019 and has received numerous updates even after the release of Call of Duty: Vanguard in late 2021.
"Expect a massive evolution of Battle Royale with all-new playspace and a new sandbox mode," Activision says, adding that "a new engine powers both the new Call of Duty game release and Warzone." (Which is likely welcome news to people who've played Warzone since its debut.)
Until the next Call of Duty arrives, Activision says that it has numerous plans for Vanguard and the current version of Warzone. The company says that "over 30 improvements," including "improvements in all forms of movement," will arrive with Season Two of Vanguard.
But those improvements pale in comparison to Activision's plan to bring a field of view slider to Warzone players on console, which it says is one of the Call of Duty community's top requests for the game, even though doing so will introduce performance issues for previous-gen consoles.
"Season Two will be the next major step in continuously improving your game experience," Activision says, "and we continue to greatly value the feedback from our community." The company plans to share more information about the next Call of Duty in the months ahead.
