Ubisofthas officially revoked its license for Assassin's Creed Liberation HD from Steam, denying access to those trying to purchase the title, access its DLC, or use any of its online features. As of the time of writing, Assassin's Creed Liberation HD is no longer available for purchase. Beginning September 1, 2022, the game will officially join Ubisoft's list of decommissioned games, though the company has assured access to Liberation for those who already own it.
Assassin's Creed Liberation HD is a high definition remaster of Assassin's Creed Liberation,which follows the story of Aveline de Grandpré, an assassin of French and African Descent, as she takes down the templar order of Southern Louisiana. While the game was released to middling reception and success, it is still an Assassin's Creed spinoff worth playing. Liberation is notable for its portrayal of the main character Aveline, who was the first female protagonist of the Assassin's Creed franchise. What's more is that Aveline is one of the few female protagonists without a significant male co-star or alternate playable character, also making her the first female assassin to take the sole leading role in an Assassin's Creed game.

Ubisoft removing Liberation from sale will, unfortunately, mean that a wider audience will never get to experience Aveline's story first-hand. However, that is relatively minor in the face of the real issue the delisting brings, which is the possibility of taking it one step further, where games already purchased can be revoked by publishers.
