Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has issued a press release requesting citizens who hold an Aadhaar Card older than 10 years to get their demographic information updated. Aadhaar is a 12-digit individual identification number issued by the UIDAI on behalf of the Government of India for its citizens. Aadhaar Card is an essential identification document which can be used for further identification while applying for various documents like driving license, passport, voter ID and more as well as to avail certain government schemes. In order to avail these schemes and services, the public has to keep the Aadhaar data updated with the latest personal details so that there is no inconvenience in data verification, according to UIDAI.
Aadhaar Card updation is mandatory in case of any change in any demographic or biometric information. UIDAI said, “Such persons who had got their Aadhaar made '10' years ago and have never updated after that in these years, such Aadhaar number holders are requested to get the documents updated.”
UIDAI also requests citizens to get their biometric information updated every 10 years. Biometric information is not collected for children up to the age of 5. However, it is mandatory to submit the biometric information as soon as the child turns older than 5. This can be done by visiting any Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
Citizens can update their Proof of Identity and Proof of Residence by paying a prescribed fee and submitting the supporting documents.
