With Q4 2021 being the biggest quarter for gaming conversation on Twitter, the gaming community flocked to Twitter to discuss 2021’s biggest video games, one of the biggest being Genshin Impact. In a blog post, Twitter shared 2021’s most tweeted about video games, with miHoYo's Genshin Impact generating a particularly large amount of conversations and impressions. Additionally, Genshin Impact's subreddit was the most viewed on Reddit in 2021. The games tweeted about encompassed everything from video game news and updates to esports events, and popular streamers and content creators.
In total, there were 2.4 billion tweets about gaming in 2021, which is a huge 10x increase from 2017. Despite being one of the biggest and most successful games of 2021, the highly-anticipated Halo Infinite didn’t make the top ten most tweeted about games. Japan was the country that tweeted the most about gaming, so it’s not surprising to see several incredibly popular Japanese games on the list. Mobile games also make multiple appearances in the top ten, testament to their ever-growing popularity.

One game that didn’t make 2020’s most tweeted about games list, so was a new addition for 2021, is Minecraft. This volume of tweets is largely thanks to the communities of popular Minecraft content creators on Twitch and YouTube, like Dream, Twitter's fifth most tweeted about gaming creator of 2021. The majority of the video games included in 2020’s most tweeted about games stayed on Twitter's list for 2021, with the exception of a couple of Japanese mobile games. Project Sekai, also a Japanese mobile game, was new to the list for 2021, like Minecraft.
