A new PlayStation 5 update will increase the graphical prowess of several hit PS5 titles this week, thanks to the addition of Variable Refresh Rate (or VRR) support. The PS5 is already considered an incredibly powerful and immersive system thanks to the PlayStation 5's Solid-State Drive and Haptic Feedback. However, there is always room for improvement when it comes to the ever-evolving world of gaming technology.
Variable Refresh Rate dynamically syncs the refresh rate of a given display with the graphical output of the console it's connected to. This is mainly done to reduce or even eliminate visual glitches like screen tearing, which look unsightly and can take a player out of the gaming experience by causing the top and bottom halves of the screen to display two different frames at the same time — spelling disaster during a particularly intense gaming session. VRR alleviates this by helping the display and console sync better, resulting in smoother gameplay, crisper graphics, and even reduced input lag for titles like Call Of Duty: Vanguard on PlayStation. Now, it seems like Sony is bringing VRR to the PlayStation 5 in the next few days, with plans to expand this support further down the road.
