Nintendo Switch launch game 1-2-Switch is apparently getting a sequel, despite its middling reviews.
Nintendo already has a number of upcoming sequels that fans are itching to get their hands on, namely The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2, Bayonetta 3, and Metroid Prime 4.
A new rumour has added one more sequel to that list, but rather than something like Super Mario Odyssey 2 or Fire Emblem: Four Houses, it’s a follow-up to 1-2-Switch.
This comes from leaker Zippo, who previously claimed (among others) that a new Donkey Kong game is also in development. Although they’re not particularly buzzed about the idea of 1-2-Switch receiving a sequel.
‘You know, sometimes I really, really don’t understand Nintendo, as a company, or as a developer. This is one of those times,’ they wrote. ‘1-2 Switch is one of the most dull, lifeless, forgettable games I have ever played, and yet, it’s getting a sequel for some reason. It sold well, I think?
‘Usually when I do a scoop, it’s usually a game I’m interested in. This is not one of those games.’
Their confusion isn’t unwarranted. 1-2-Switch was a simple mini-game collection that launched alongside the Nintendo Switch and was basically the console’s equivalent to Wii Sports: an excuse to demonstrate the capabilities of the Joy-Con controller.
Unlike Wii Sports, it didn’t particularly resonate with audiences or critics, only managing a middling Metacritic score of 58. It’s sales weren’t quite as bad, at 3.18 million units, but neither were they particularly impressive, especially if you consider a sequel wouldn’t have the benefit of being a launch title.
