Batman made a surprise appearance during the latest episode of the DCU animated series , and James Gunn recently opened up that when we do meet the Caped Crusader, it’ll be without an origin.
Speaking with showrunner Dean Lorey in a recent video for Rotten Tomatoes, Gunn opened up about Batman’s appearance, joking that the original cut of the episode had much more Batman.
However, much like the upcoming Superman movie, Gunn said it was a great way to show that, in the DCU, Batman “already exists.” “When they first gave it to me, we saw a lot more Batman [Laughs],” Gunn said. “I would say, ‘I’m not ready to commit to that, I’m not ready to commit to that, I’m not ready to commit to that.’ So I was like, ‘More silhouette!’ It’s a great way to show that Batman does exist. “He already exists in this universe just like when we come to the Superman movie and we see that Superman already exists and is already known by the people of Metropolis.
We don’t need to hear the origin story again. That’s just the way to introduce that Batman is a part of this universe.” When it comes to Batman and the DCU, Gunn simply said that the character in Creature Commandos is “the DCU Batman,” before professing his love of the character. “I love Batman.
I’ve loved him since I was a little kid. He’s one of my favorite characters,” said Gunn. “We’re going to do great things with him.
