Will Forte recently took shots at Warner Bros. for their infamous controversial decision to shelve the Looney Tunes comedy , saying the movie deserved much better than it got.
Speaking to MovieWeb in a recent interview, Forte didn’t mince any words when it came to how he felt about the movie he starred in being shelved for a $30 million tax write-off.
“My thoughts were that it’s f—ing bulls—,” Forte said. “It is such a delightful movie. It deserves so much better than it got. I can’t tell you possibly why the decision was made to not release it. But it makes my blood boil.”
Forte went on to say that he still enjoys talking about the movie because he doesn’t want people to forget about what happened to it. While he is thankful it got made, he said that it hurt to not be able to show everyone the movie they worked hard to release.
“Thank you for asking me about it because I like talking about the movie because I don’t want people to forget what [Warner Bros.] did to this,” continued Forte. “I appreciate them letting us make it, but don’t let us make this thing that we fall in love with and then not show it. I would understand if the thing sucked, but it’s really good. Maybe somehow we get to see it at some point. I hope people do. I was really proud of it.”
Directed by Dave Green and written by Samy Burch (with the story coming from Burch, James Gunn, and Jeremy Slater), Coyote vs. Acme was filmed in February 2022 and was originally going to be released theatrically on July 21, 2023; however, Warner Bros. Discovery removed the film’s release date in April 2022.
In November 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery announced it was shelving the movie for a $30 million tax write-down, a controversial move the studio previously utilized for films such as Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt.
Following much public backlash, Warner Bros. Discovery opted to let Coyote vs. Acme’s filmmakers shop the movie around at other studios. However, Warner Bros. Discovery ultimately rejected offers
